Knowledge has no value if it is not transmitted

Our Mission
One in two people will experience shoulder pain during their lifetime, half of them will suffer for more than six months. These conditions, which are among the main causes of musculoskeletal consultations, have significant personal and societal repercussions: prolonged work absences, and the costs of medical and paramedical care. The complexity of these conditions is often poorly understood, leading to delayed diagnoses, prolonged treatment, and sometimes avoidable surgical interventions. Restricted access to scientific literature and specialized training hinders progress.
The ESSOR foundation is committed to improving the management of shoulder and elbow pathologies through scientific research, education, and the provision of training fellowships
Founders and Advisors
Our Areas of Focus
The foundation is committed to innovating to advance surgical techniques and technologies for the shoulder and elbow. It works to develop research plans, submit rigorous ethical protocols, and conduct scientific studies. It also ensures the collection of reliable clinical data and the maintenance of secure databases throughout the process.
The foundation is committed to ensuring the open-access publication of research results, to contribute to shared, open, and barrier-free knowledge. It also works to train and raise awareness among healthcare professionals (general practitioners, emergency physicians, specialists, physiotherapists, and osteopaths) through specific seminars aimed at harmonizing care practices.
In this dynamic, it organizes monthly multidisciplinary colloquiums dedicated to the study of complex cases, bringing together healthcare providers and patients for a common discussion. Finally, the foundation strives to disseminate and popularize knowledge through digital platforms and awareness campaigns on social media, thereby strengthening its scientific and societal impact

Each year, the foundation selects, based on competitive applications, 1 to 2 fellows (surgeons in specialization) from among the best candidates for advanced training in shoulder and elbow surgery. Priority is given to candidates from countries or regions where access to specialized technologies and knowledge is limited, in order to foster, upon their return, lasting collaborations with their home institutions.
The program offers personalized mentorship, access to scientific resources, participation in clinical and surgical activities, as well as in innovative research projects. Fellows benefit from full funding for a European scientific conference and are free to visit other training centers during the fellowship. A stipend covering living expenses in Geneva is granted to each candidate.

Each year, the foundation awards, based on selective application, a grant or scholarship intended for surgeons trained in Switzerland who wish to further their skills abroad in shoulder and elbow surgery, in order to foster their academic development and professional growth, and to enrich local knowledge upon their return.
